FAQ
Frequently
Asked Questions
for ALGE Timing devices with Computers
Q: I have a new Laptop wthout an RS232
Interface. What can I do?
A: You have to buy an Interface Converter
like an USB-RS232 or PCMCIA-RS232 Converter.
Nomally PCMCIA-RS232 Adapters are more
expensive but more reliable.
Q: I have a USB-RS232 Adapter installed.
But how can I find out the port number?
A: Right mouse click to "My Computer".
click "Properties". click "Hardware". click "Device Manager"
click "Ports (Com&LPT)".
There you shoud find your
Adapter and your port number. If you see a "!" bevore the device, the
driver installation failed.
In this case read the
manual of the Adaptor vendor.
Q: My Com Port is blocked. But I do not
have any Application open. What can I do?
A: If a timing device is connected to the
computer at startup, it can happen that Windows installs a device
called "MS Ballpoint"
This is wrong. Be shure that the
timing device is disconnected or off at windows startup (Including
wakeup from suspend state).
